{"id":122427,"date":"2025-10-20T16:34:51","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T06:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vennu.com.au\/news\/?p=122427"},"modified":"2025-10-21T13:37:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T03:07:02","slug":"openai-the-politics-of-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vennu.com.au\/news\/openai-the-politics-of-intelligence\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI: The Politics of Intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Last Friday at <a class=\"pwHwmXBqmofSClxsctVkNQQzvNIASaSVkFYLg \" tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/sxswsydney\/\" target=\"_self\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\">SXSW Sydney<\/a>, Chris Lehane, Chief Global Affairs Officer at OpenAI, offered a fascinating vision of how nations must think strategically about AI \u2014 balancing innovation and inclusion, productivity gains and job shifts, national priorities and global cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Lehane described the launch of ChatGPT on 30 November as a defining moment \u2014 the line between eras \u2014 ushering in the \u201cAge of Intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AI, he said, is not just another tool, but a general-purpose technology reshaping economies, societies, and reflecting the values of the political systems that guide it.<\/p>\n<p>He believes societies have less than five years to adapt. \u201cInfrastructure is destiny,\u201d he said \u2014 and for AI, that infrastructure is chips, data, energy, and talent.<\/p>\n<p>Australia, Lehane noted, is uniquely positioned:<br \/>\n\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddfa 10 million active ChatGPT users<br \/>\n\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udcbb 30,000 developers<br \/>\n\ud83c\udf0f Top 10 globally for AI capability and member of Five Eyes<br \/>\n\ud83d\udca1 35 tech unicorns, strong energy and fibre infrastructure, and potential to build a sovereign large language model.<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity? Massive productivity gains \u2014 especially for millions of small businesses.<br \/>\nThe challenge?
