Founded on Rotary’s enduring motto of “Service Above Self,” RESCA is unique in that nominees are put forward by the very communities they serve. Their selection is based on the impact they make every day — through courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to keeping people safe.

Currently presented across New South Wales, the ACT, and Victoria, these awards continue to grow in profile and significance, reflecting the critical role emergency services play in an era of increasingly complex natural disasters and community needs.

At last week’s awards ceremony, attendees were honoured to hear from their Patron, the Governor General of Australia – Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, whose address acknowledged the profound humanity and resilience shown by all nominees. The Honourable Josh Wilson MP, Assistant Minister for Emergency Management, also spoke powerfully about the vital intersection between climate change and emergency management — and how this year’s awardees exemplify the leadership required in this evolving landscape.

This year’s national recipients — Barry Randall (Victoria Police) in the paid category and Gary Whittaker (NSW SES) in the volunteer category — represent the best of what it means to serve. Their impact reminds us that heroism often happens quietly, through daily actions that strengthen and protect communities.

The photo features Stuart Massey, Marine Rescue NSW, NSW Volunteer Finalist and David Brawn, Past Rotary District Governor, whose continued leadership and service inspire many.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

[/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Each year, the National Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) shine a light on the extraordinary dedication of emergency service personnel who consistently go above and beyond.
