On Saturday, February 7, Rock Valley Hall hosted the first Lismore City Council Interhall Meeting of 2026, bringing together management committees from rural community halls across the Lismore Local Government Area. Twenty-eight attendees representing fifteen halls gathered to share insights and strengthen regional collaboration, with valued support from Cr Electra Jensen of Lismore City Council.

Since its launch in May 2024, this quarterly forum has combined expert guest speakers with peer networking, creating a vital support network for rural halls. The rotating host venue model allows committees to visit one another’s facilities, exchange practical knowledge, and deepen their sense of shared ownership and community.

Rock Valley Hall has a remarkable story of resilience. As an incorporated association, it owns the land, Post Office Store, and hall building. After losing two previous halls to severe storms—the first built in 1914—the community constructed the current facility in 1984. Today, it serves as both a vital community hub and a designated Rural Fire Service Neighbourhood Safer Place. Following the devastating 2022 Lismore floods, which saw water reach the hall’s floorboards, the community came together with the support of the Australian Red Cross and established a Community-led Resilience Team. This subcommittee of the hall works alongside the on-site Post Office and Store Manager, who also serves as Vice President.

The meeting featured Suzanne Campbell, CEO and Founder of Vennu, who demonstrated how technology can connect underutilised spaces with their communities while simplifying administration for volunteer-run venues. Simon Winfield from Pearces Creek Hall provided a compelling case study, sharing how Vennu has streamlined their bookings and supported a thriving live music program.
